Things to Do in Cardiff Bay
Our guide to days out in Cardiff Bay, which is easily accessible from the city centre, offers an abundance of dining options, concert venues, scenic walks and waterfront beauty. Explore all the things to do including a visit to the Senedd, head onto the water with Cardiff Cruises, or amaze the kids at Techniquest.
Cardiff Bay, located just south of Cardiff city centre, is one of South Wales’ most popular tourist destinations, offering a unique blend of waterfront charm, cultural attractions, and vibrant dining options. Once a bustling dockland central to the coal trade, the area has been transformed into a lively and scenic hub. Visitors can explore iconic landmarks such as the Wales Millennium Centre, known for its striking architecture and world-class performances, or delve into local history at the Pierhead Building and the Senedd, home of the Welsh Parliament. The bay’s wide promenade is perfect for a leisurely walk, with stunning views across the water and plenty of places to stop for a drink or meal.
For families and those seeking interactive experiences, Cardiff Bay offers a range of engaging activities. Techniquest, the hands-on science and discovery centre, is a firm favourite with children and adults alike. Boat tours are available for those wanting to see the bay and nearby coastline, while Cardiff Bay Barrage provides an enjoyable walk with views back over the city. The nearby wetlands reserve offers a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. With its mix of attractions, modern facilities, and scenic surroundings, Cardiff Bay is a must-visit destination that appeals to all ages and interests.
