I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mowgli Street Food in Cardiff with a group of friends, offering Indian cuisine with a street food twist.  With 14 of us heading for dinner we were pleased they didn't need us to pre-order, and for a first-time visitor like myself I'd heard so many good things I was excited to tuck in!

Setting & Atmosphere

Heading inside, the atmosphere strikes a balance between vibrant energy and cosy intimacy. Fairy lights drape across the ceiling, hanging lanterns cast a warm amber glow, and the restaurant’s famous swing seats add a playful touch that immediately sets it apart from a traditional curry house. Exposed brick, lush greenery, and eclectic décor give the space a stylish yet relaxed feel, while the open layout creates the lively buzz you would expect from an Indian street food kitchen.

Service & Hospitality

I found the service to be warm, attentive, and refreshingly relaxed, helping to create an experience that felt welcoming from the moment we arrived. We were quickly greeted and shown to our spacious table, however there was no rush about ordering with our server very happy to guide first-time visitors (including myself) through the menu.

We were all having the Supper Club Menu, so our waitress explained the small-plate concept and went through the various options we could choose, and despite us making a few changes as the order came together it genuinely didn't seem to be any trouble!  With a large group we'd agreed between us on sharing a few bits so we didn't miss out on any of the flavours.

Even though the restaurant was full, food arrived at our table efficiently and with genuine enthusiasm, giving the impression of a team that knows the menu well and enjoys sharing it. The balance between casual dining and polished customer care fits perfectly with Mowgli’s lively, social atmosphere.

Indian Street Food

The Supper Club menu at Mowgli Street Food Cardiff offers a generous introduction to the restaurant’s bold, home-style flavours, with dishes designed for sharing and sampling rather than the traditional one starter, one main format.

Opening proceedings were Yoghurt Chat Bombs, which were absolutely divine! It's a sweet, spicy, creamy explosion in a bite-sized parcel, definitely something I wished I had more of.  This was followed up with Gunpowder Chicken and Himalayan Cheese Toast, both of which were delicious and generously portioned.

The standout dish for me was the famous Black Dahl, a rich, slow-cooked lentil curry - creamy, deeply spiced, a perfect comfort food with a gentle smokiness that made every spoonful feel indulgent without being overly heavy.  I had this alongside the House Lamb, which brought something entirely different to the table. Tender pieces of lamb were coated in a thick, aromatic sauce packed with warming spices and just enough heat to build gradually without overwhelming the dish.

I particularly liked being able to choose two main dishes, with the richness of the lamb contrasting with the softer, earthy flavour of the dahl. Served alongside fresh roti and fragrant rice, the meal felt relaxed, sociable, and full of variety - perfect for a group of friends happy to share good food over good conversation.

Be sure to pop the yoghurt chat bombs in whole - trust me, it's the only way!

Dessert & Drinks

The Supper Club Menu includes your first drink, whether that's a glass of bubbles, wine, or beer.  A nice touch was that the drinks options also included a mocktail rather than just a standard soft drink.  You can round off dinner with something sweet - I opted for the Mowgli brownie served with ice cream, which was deliciously rich - or alternatively there are options for just ice cream.

Value & Overall Experience

At £40 per person, I felt the Supper Club Menu at Mowgli Street Food Cardiff offered excellent value for the overall experience. Considering the number of dishes included, the variety of flavours, and the fact that a drink was part of the package, it felt like a generous and well-balanced dining option.

Combined with the lively atmosphere, friendly service, and consistently high-quality food, the experience felt polished without becoming overly formal. I left genuinely satisfied and already planning a return visit.
