Pen y Fan, at 886 metres, is the highest peak in South Wales and one of the most popular walking destinations in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Its summit rewards visitors with spectacular views across the surrounding mountains and valleys, making it a must for walkers, photographers and nature lovers. The most popular route begins from the Pont ar Daf car park, offering a relatively straightforward climb along a well-maintained path, taking around two hours for a round trip.
For those seeking a longer or quieter walk, alternative routes include starting from Storey Arms which is also a fairly easy climb, or from Cwm Gwdi or Taf Fechan, both of which are much more challenging routes.
Parking for Pen y Fan
Parking is available at Pont ar Daf (run by the National Trust), which is around 8 miles south of Brecon on the A470. There are toilets here, as well as a refreshments stall on most days.
Cwm Gwdi car park (also run by the National Trust) is found to the north of Pen y Fan, and is much smaller.
