About

Cosmeston Lakes Country Park, situated just outside Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan, offers over 100 hectares of beautifully landscaped countryside to explore throughout the year. Nestled within the serene surroundings are two large former quarry lakes - one spanning 12 hectares - that attract an impressive array of wildlife, including mute swans, great crested grebes, mallards and even elusive kingfishers.

Recognised as a Local Nature Reserve since 2013, and containing areas designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the park is carefully managed to preserve its diverse habitats - woodlands, meadows, wetlands and reedbeds that support rare plants and waterfowl species.

At the heart of the park lies the fascinating Cosmeston Medieval Village, a reconstructed 14th‑century settlement built on original archaeological foundations discovered during landscaping in 1978. Visitors can enjoy costumed tours or self‑guided audio walks through period‑furnished buildings and gardens set in the year 1350.

Alongside this living history attraction, the park boasts accessible pathways, picnic areas, adventure play space, a café, toilets, and gently graded lakeside trails suitable for all ages and abilities. Whether you're after a peaceful nature break, wildlife spotting, family fun or a touch of medieval history, Cosmeston Lakes Country Park offers something memorable for everyone.
