About

The Caerleon Roman Amphitheatre near Newport is one of the best-preserved examples of its kind in Britain and offers a fascinating glimpse into Roman life nearly 2,000 years ago. Built around AD 90, it could seat up to 6,000 spectators who came to watch gladiatorial combat and military displays. Today, visitors can explore the atmospheric remains and imagine the roar of the crowds that once filled this impressive structure.

Set within the historic town of Caerleon, the amphitheatre is part of a wider collection of Roman sites that include barracks, baths and a museum. Its grassy banks and open layout make it easy to walk around and explore, while the surrounding area offers plenty of opportunities to learn more about Roman heritage. It’s a must-see for history enthusiasts and families alike, bringing the ancient world vividly to life in South Wales.
