Bute Park
About
Bute Park in Cardiff is a beautiful 56-hectare green space located beside Cardiff Castle and the River Taff. Once the private grounds of the Marquesses of Bute, it is now a Grade I listed historic landscape open to the public. The park features an impressive arboretum with over 2,000 trees, including rare and champion species. Notable landmarks include the Animal Wall, the Blackfriars Friary ruins, the Gorsedd Stones, and peaceful water features such as the Mill Leat and dock feeder canal.
Bute Park is ideal for walking, cycling, picnics, and family outings, with scenic trails and riverside paths to enjoy. The Visitor Centre provides maps, free Wi-Fi, toilets, baby-changing facilities, and educational displays. There are also three cafés - the Secret Garden Café, Pettigrew Tea Rooms, and the Summerhouse Café - offering food and drinks in picturesque settings. A varied events programme runs throughout the year, including community runs, guided walks, festivals, and the RHS Show.
