About Lunchtime Concert With Sinfonia Cymru: Can You Sing That Tune? - The Riverfront
Running Time - 1hr
Can You Sing That Tune?
Sinfonia Cymru violist Isobel Neary-Adams is on a mission to get you all singing - or at least humming - our music on the way home. They have curated a concert packed with soaring melodies and unforgettable tunes, some you might have heard before and others that will be a pleasant surprise.
We begin with an arrangement of a Welsh favourite: the beloved traditional song Sosban Fach. You’ll also hear Samuel Barber’s mournful Adagio for Strings in intimate, original String Quartet version.
The concert’s centrepiece is something you might not know, but that Isobel is convinced you’ll grow to love. Ernst von Dohnányi’s Piano Quintet No.1 uses repeated themes across its four movements, bringing them together in a delightful finale. Isobel says, “It’s one of the few classical pieces I’ve been able to sing tunes from after only listening to it once, and I hope you will have a similar experience”.
The concert features five Sinfonia Cymru players, all dynamic professional musicians under the age of 30. With some surprises from the worlds of film and musicals, this concert is chance to discover something new that you’ll want to listen to again and again.
