About Consensus Gentium - Wales Millennium Centre / Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru
This experience is part of the Annwn Prize, a new global prize celebrating immersive storytelling from artists around the world. Nominated by an international community of curators and commentators, four shortlisted works come to Wales Millennium Centre, inviting you to step inside the story. Four worlds, one venue.
“To offer a vision of the future and a greater understanding of the roles we could play in it” - Karen Palmer
Consensus Gentium-a Latin phrase that means “if everyone believes it, it must be true”-is an interactive experience intended to drive discussion about data privacy, unconscious biases, and the power of technology.
This interactive film invites you to make choices that help shape the story itself. Integrating cutting-edge facial detection and AI, audiences will be transported on a unique quest to discover what could come about if we succumb to unchecked surveillance. Through a smartphone-based experience, participants step into the role of someone hoping to visit their sick nana, navigating a government-run Global Citizen App that determines mobility status through constant monitoring. Using facial detection and AI, the film reads your expressions and decisions in real time, creating a unique, personalised journey, revealing how personal freedoms can be influenced, or restricted, by digital systems.
The selection committee praised its emotionally charged, participant-driven narrative that powerfully explores digital citizenship, agency and surveillance - where the participants every choice reflects urgent questions of our connected future.
