About The Bell at Skenfrith
Tucked away in the scenic county of Monmouthshire, The Bell at Skenfrith is a beautifully restored 17th-century Welsh coaching inn and one of Wales’s best-loved boutique hotels. Originally restored in 2001 by local residents Oliver and Boo Vaughan, it was tastefully updated throughout by current owner Sarah Hudson in 2015. The Bell combines historic charm with modern comfort, featuring oak beams, antique furniture, fresh flowers, green plants, and cosy contemporary furnishings that create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Each of the eleven individually designed bedrooms includes an en suite bathroom and luxury Noble Isle toiletries - some even featuring beetroot from the hotel’s kitchen garden.
Overlooking the River Monnow on the edge of the tiny village of Skenfrith, The Bell offers a light-filled bar and restaurant, plus a charming garden terrace open in the warmer months. It's an ideal escape for romantic breaks, special occasions, or simply to unwind. Guests are welcome to bring their well-behaved dogs, and there’s plenty to explore with six self-guided circular walks through the surrounding countryside - some even crossing into England. With award-winning food, a celebrated wine list, and unforgettable dark skies perfect for stargazing, The Bell is a perfect countryside retreat. Do note: there's free Wi-Fi, but mobile signal can be a little patchy - just another reason to switch off and relax.
